Louis Barragan, 1976
Inspired by the paintings of Mexican artist Chucho Reyes Ferreira, Barragan employed colour not as a mere surface finish but rather as a fundamental building block in creating sensory experiences. Hidden light sources, such as the clerestory windows atop the pool room, reflect light onto internal planar walls creating dramatic atmospheres which change throughout the day.
Given the importance of colour to this house - acrylic was the go to choice for this model. With its bold hues and iridescent qualities it created, under natural light, dynamic atmospheres throught the spaces within the model. Coupled with Blackbutt and Jarrah timber veneers, this 1 to 100 scale model is our own tribute to the inspiring works of Luis Barragan.
